The sixth pattern of the From Marti and Me Club

Carpenter's Wheel is a beautiful, large block. Marti Michell adapted the traditional block in such a way that it can be sewn without inset seams. The block in the size of this pattern is made with template set A. In this pattern you will learn to cut larger triangles and parallellograms, sizes that are not in the template set, by using templates from set A in a differend way. The pattern has two wall quilt projects, and also gives instructions for making three different size bed quilts.

You can make these quilts very quickly with template set A.

A lot of well known patchwork blocks patterns consist of squares and triangles (half square and quarter square. The template sets A and B by Marti Michell are based on this: they contain squares and triangles, with which you can made a enormous array of blocks. The templates are made of the same acrylic material as quilt rulers, so they can be used with a rotary cutter. First, strips are cut of the right width, and then the templates are positioned on the strips, to make the second cut. Each template has double blunt corners for perfect alignment. The blocks go together past, easy and perfect!  

The first template set, A, has 7 parts (3 squares and 4 triangles). The largest square is 3 inch.

The book Encyclopedia of Patchwork Blocks part 1 contains a lot of blocks you can make with this set.

The kit contains enough fabric for the top and the binding. You only need to add fabric for the backing, and the batting.

Crossed Canoes & Diamonds, Too

This is the seventh pattern of the From Marti and Me Club.

The Crossed Canoes blosk is a variation of the Kaleidoscope block. It will have the same effect of suggesting circles as the  Kaleidoscope blosk (without any curved seam), but the construction is a bit easier. The quilt on the front of the pattern is called Sailor's Delight. There are several different projects in the pattern with variations of the Crossed Canoes blosk, such as the Rocky Road to Kansas, and a table runner and a wall quilt eith the Diamond Canoes block.

The blocks are made with the small and/or the large Kaleido-rulers. Sailor's Delight can be made with either size ruler. For the projects with a block size of 12 inch, the large ruler is necessary. These rulers are the Tools of the Month. The Kaleidoscope block is beautiful, but difficult to draw. With this ruler you can make Kaleidoscope blocks in 13 sizes, ranging from 2 inch to 8 inch. You use one end of the ruler to cut the isosceles triangles and the other end of the triangle to cut the corner triangles of the block. Quick and accurate, without intricate measurements. The ruler has the same blunted corners that Marti Michell's templates have, fitting the patches exactly together for sewing.

The Kaleidoscope block is beautiful, but difficult to draw. With this ruler you can make Kaleidoscope blocks in 11 sizes, ranging from 6 inch to 16 inch. You use one end of the ruler to cut the isosceles triangles and the other end of the triangle to cut the corner triangles of the block. Quick and accurate, without intricate measurements. The ruler has the same blunted corners that Marti Michell's templates have, fitting the patches exactly together for sewing.

The kit consists of dark blue and a red Dutch fabric, a white-on-white fabric for the background and a light blue fabric from the basic series by Stof. The kit contains enough fabric for the top of the quilt and the binding. You only need to add fabric for the backing and the batting.

This is eighth pattern of the From Marti and Me Club pattern.

TheTwinkling Star pattern is a nice star, made with template sets C en set A. The block size is 6 inch square. The pattern contains several project with this block, including wall quilts, a throw, a pillowcase and a dorm size quilt.

The Twinkling Star kit consists of a beautiful collection of Christmas fabrics in light/gold, red and green. The kit contains enough fabric for the top and the binding for the quilt on the front of the pattern (Orange and Purple Dazzler). The quilt size is 30 inch square(76,2 cm). You only need to add fabric for the backing and the batting.
